What were your highlights from 2024 and do you have any learnings you’ve taken into this year?
Going to a bear sanctuary in Vietnam with my Mum was cool, I especially liked the Sun bears, that whole trip as well as finishing the next Cloud Ice 9 record. I think completing that record has been really good for me, it was a part of a lot of processing of difficult times from the year before and now that it’s done I feel a lot more mature and mentally balanced.
Do you have a special connection with The Tote or experience you would like to share?
I used to live down the road from it in my early 20s with Joe who plays sax in the band, sometimes you’d find yourself there taking in a psych rock band you’ve never heard of and will probably never hear again, but I liked it a lot for that, always a unique, small musical ecosystem to be uncovered -
like crabs under rocks, sometimes they blow bubbles, sometimes they spit sand at you, most of the time they just ignore you and get on with their business.
What are you most looking forward to for Blue Evening?
A lot of cool bands have emerged over the last year or so who are on this line up, I’m looking forward to seeing them, the Solder 6-piece sounds epic.
What should we expect to hear from your set? will there be new material or just the classics?
We generally avoid the “classics” if you can call them that. There’s maybe one or two songs in the set that’s on a record? Maybe that’s annoying for people who like the records, but I think we just get way more engaged and play better when we’re doing stuff that feels fresh, which to me is more important.
Are there plans for a new music this year?
Yes, ‘Globophobia’ 13 tracks of chaos coming at you through Happy Tapes early Feb.
